Today saw the final day of competition of the 2016 Southern University Games (SUG) and there was no shortage of on field excitement for spectators to follow.
This week has been a huge week of sport in Footscray, with over 2000 students from 13 universities playing across 20 different sports. All universities were well represented by their students who can all be congratulated on the way they displayed true sportsmanship on and off the field.
After four days of intense competition, RMIT were victorious, claiming six gold medals and the title of Overall Champion University for 2016. LaTrobe University came in second place with Deakin University taking third place.
The Spirit Trophy awarded to the university that displays good sportsmanship and fair play, was awarded to host partner university, Victoria University.
Deakin University took out the Per Capita Championship, with RMIT coming a close second. This championship is awarded to the university winning the most pennants per student numbers.
Australian University Sport will now turn its focus to the Australian University Games which will take place in Perth from 25-30 September.
